India pushes stronger BRICS supply chains, easier market access।।

(Building for Resilience, Innovation, Co-operation and Sustainability)

India pushes stronger BRICS supply chains, easier market access

New Delhi : 2026/09/13: India has called on the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi to strengthen economic resilience, diversify supply chains and improve market access among member economies, priorities that have direct implications for textile, apparel and raw-material sourcing networks across the bloc.

The call comes amid global uncertainty linked to geopolitical conflicts, the West Asia crisis and changes in the tariff environment following US President Donald Trump's trade measures.

For exporters, importers and sourcing teams, the discussions centre on practical issues including logistics reliability, regulatory procedures, non-tariff barriers, payment connectivity and access to raw materials.

At the inaugural session of the BRICS Business Forum, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said economies need to be better able to absorb shocks while staying linked to global trade.

He added that stronger BRICS economic security required greater self-reliance, fair market conduct, dependable logistics, more predictable operating conditions, wider commercial access and clearer regulation and investment rules.

Jaishankar also flagged energy systems that can withstand disruption and transition pathways suited to national circumstances.

He identified digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, fintech and advanced manufacturing as opportunity areas, while noting that they also raise questions around access, standards, security and trust.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal asked BRICS members and partner countries to reduce regulatory and non-tariff obstacles, strengthen supply-chain resilience and open markets to each other's goods, including raw materials and critical minerals. He also sought simpler regulatory procedures, faster clearances, broader services-market access, easier movement of professionals and wider cross-border recognition of professional bodies.

Goyal also supported deeper digital and financial integration, including links between payment systems and greater use of local currencies for trade. He said that the India's digital payment interface handles more than 250 billion transactions annually and is accepted in 11 countries.

Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said Russia is seeking more foreign investment and has redirected trade towards countries it regards as friendly, which now account for about 85 per cent of its total trade turnover. He also proposed a BRICS grain exchange as an independent mechanism for strategic commodities and called for public and private investment in the initiative.

India, as BRICS chair, is seeking practical, development-oriented outcomes at the 18th BRICS Summit in startups, innovation, resilient supply chains and green energy, alongside more trade in national currencies and reforms of global institutions. India's chairship is guided by the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Co-operation and Sustainability.'

A proposed BRICS Logistics Supply-Chain Co-operation Framework is expected to be adopted at the summit to improve the resilience, efficiency and sustainability of cross-sector transport logistics and supply chains among members. A BRICS Startup Innovation Fund could be among the outcomes, with recommendations for a dedicated governance and fund-management mechanism and voluntary mobilisation of public and private finance for scalable startup-led solutions, as per media reports.

A digital interface may also be developed to connect national nodal agencies, selected incubators and startups across BRICS countries. Such mechanisms, if advanced, would add institutional channels around innovation and supply-chain cooperation across member markets.

The BRICS forum brings together businesses, entrepreneurs and industry representatives from BRICS member countries to identify commercial opportunities and barriers to economic co-operation. The member countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
