वेलिंगटन : 09/09/2026: न्यूज़ीलैंड सरकार दुनिया के पहले ऐसे क्लिनिकल स्लीप ट्रायल (नींद से जुड़े परीक्षण) का समर्थन कर रही है, जिसमें यह देखा जाएगा कि देश के मज़बूत ऊन (strong-wool) से बने बिस्तर सिंथेटिक विकल्पों की तुलना में कैसे काम करते हैं। इस कदम का मकसद ऊन का इस्तेमाल ज़्यादा कीमत वाले बिस्तर और घरेलू टेक्सटाइल उत्पादों में करने के लिए सबूत जुटाना है।

 

तीन साल तक चलने वाले और 20 लाख डॉलर (2 मिलियन डॉलर) के इस स्लीप साइंस रिसर्च प्रोग्राम का नेतृत्व 'वाइज़वूल' (Wisewool) कर रही है और इसे 'प्राइमरी सेक्टर ग्रोथ फंड' से 8 लाख डॉलर (800,000 डॉलर) की मदद मिल रही है। इस प्रोजेक्ट में असली लोगों पर उनके घरों और स्लीप लैबोरेटरी में परीक्षण किया जाएगा। इसमें नींद आने में लगने वाले समय (स्लीप लेटेंसी), शरीर के तापमान को नियंत्रित करने की क्षमता, हवा के आवागमन (ब्रीथेबिलिटी), नमी को संभालने की क्षमता, हाइपोएलर्जेनिक परफॉर्मेंस और इस्तेमाल करने वाले को मिलने वाले कुल आराम को मापा जाएगा।

 

यह प्रोजेक्ट सरकार की पिछली मदद पर आधारित है, जिसने वाइज़वूल को फर्नीचर और बिस्तर उत्पादों के लिए अपना प्रीमियम 'वूल बड फिलर' विकसित करने में मदद की थी।

 

कृषि मंत्री टॉड मैकक्ले ने कहा: "वैज्ञानिक रूप से ऊन से नींद में होने वाले फायदों को साबित करने से मज़बूत ऊन (strong-wool) को प्रीमियम कीमत मिल सकेगी और यह फोम, सिंथेटिक, पंख और कॉटन के मुकाबले एक बेहतरीन प्राकृतिक विकल्प के तौर पर स्थापित हो सकेगा। भरोसेमंद सबूत देने के लिए नींद के क्षेत्र के प्रमुख शोधकर्ताओं के साथ काम करने से अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाज़ारों में नए रास्ते खुलेंगे।"

 

मैकक्ले ने कहा कि पिछले काम की वजह से वाइज़वूल पहले ही ताइराविति ईस्ट कोस्ट के किसानों को सप्लाई किए गए हर किलोग्राम कच्चे ऊन के लिए 50 सेंट का प्रीमियम दे पा रही है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि कंपनी का लक्ष्य अगले दशक में नॉर्थ आइलैंड में 3 करोड़ किलोग्राम (30 मिलियन किलोग्राम) ऊन को प्रोसेस करना है, जिसके लिए देश भर से न्यूज़ीलैंड के मज़बूत ऊन का एक बड़ा हिस्सा हासिल करना होगा।

Wellington : 2026/09/09: The Government of New Zealand is supporting what it described as the world’s first clinical sleep trial to test how the country's strong-wool bedding performs against synthetic alternatives, in a move aimed at building evidence for wool’s use in higher-value bedding and home textile products.

 

The three-year, $2 million sleep science research programme is led by Wisewool and supported with $800,000 from the Primary Sector Growth Fund. The project will test real people in their own homes and in sleep laboratories, measuring sleep latency, body temperature regulation, breathability, moisture management, hypoallergenic performance and overall user comfort.

 

The project builds on earlier government assistance that helped Wisewool develop its premium wool bud filler for furniture and bedding products.

 

Todd McClay, Agriculture Minister, said: “Scientifically validating wool’s sleep benefits will allow strong-wool to command a premium, positioning it as a high-performance natural alternative to foam, synthetics, feathers and cotton. Working with leading sleep researchers to provide credible evidence, will open doors in international markets.”

 

McClay said the previous work has already enabled Wisewool to pay Tairāwhiti East Coast farmers a 50-cent premium for every kilogram of raw wool supplied. He also said the company aims to process 30 million kilograms of wool across the North Island over the next decade, which would require sourcing a significant share of New Zealand’s strong-wool from across the country.

 

Mark Patterson, Rural Communities Minister, said the investment reflects the government’s commitment to rural communities, adding that the project is “science-led, sustainability-driven and delivering real value for farmers”. Patterson said proving the premium sleep case for New Zealand strong-wool could lift demand and farmgate returns across the sector, from growers through to exporters, and is expected to create a competitive advantage for New Zealand wool.
