New Manufacturing Facility in Mirzamurad to Generate Thousands
of Jobs, with Priority for Local Women
Varanasi
: 2026/10/29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Arvind Limited’s new
textile manufacturing plant in Khochwan, Mirzamurad, in Varanasi on Sunday,
marking a significant development for the region’s industrial growth. Built at
an investment of approximately ₹150 crore, the facility is expected to generate
thousands of employment opportunities, with a particular focus on providing
jobs to local women.
The
plant represents an expansion of Ahmedabad-based Arvind Limited’s manufacturing
presence into Varanasi, bringing textile production activity closer to a region
with a strong association with India’s traditional textile heritage. The
investment is expected to support local employment while contributing to the
development of the textile manufacturing ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh. By
creating opportunities within the region, the facility could also help connect
local workers with organised industrial production and training.
Following
the inauguration, the Prime Minister interacted with mill officials to learn
about the facility’s manufacturing activities. He enquired about the fabrics
being produced, including Khadi-based materials, and the raw materials used in
the manufacturing process. The interaction highlighted the range of textile
products being developed at the plant and the importance of understanding the
materials and processes behind fabric production.
More
than 300 women have been recruited for training at the facility, reflecting the
emphasis on developing a local workforce and expanding women’s participation in
industrial employment. The training initiative is expected to prepare recruits
for roles associated with textile manufacturing, although the specific training
modules and timelines were not detailed in the available announcement.
The
project could have wider implications for Varanasi’s industrial development by
supporting employment, workforce skills and related economic activity. Textile
manufacturing can create demand for services across production, logistics,
maintenance and other supporting operations, potentially benefiting businesses
connected to the local industrial network.
The
inauguration also underscores the role of private-sector investment in
expanding manufacturing capacity beyond established industrial centres. As the
plant begins its operations, employment generation, workforce training and
production performance will be important indicators of its contribution to the
regional economy. With its ₹150-crore investment and focus on local
recruitment, Arvind Limited’s Varanasi facility adds a new dimension to the
city’s evolving textile industry.
